Slight rearrange

By KenjiE20 on 30 Jul 2009@ 12:45 am

I’ve had a reshuffle in layout terms, to coincide with the new revenue making ProjectWonderful ad boxes, and hopefully it’s as easy, or easier to navigate.
The site zone’s that were on the left, are now in the bar above, and darken depending where you are, and a few boxes have moved.

Oh and I bumped rslap up to v1.1, with a fix for comments and blank lines.

Also EVE got a funky new trailer, which I’m slotting in here, simply because I can;

Fixing WordPress’ Gallery

By KenjiE20 on 29 Jul 2009@ 5:10 pm

It’s moderately well known that WordPress’ gallery code, is not as robust as it could be in some cases. These have a tendency to manifest in XHTML / multi-column CSS layouts. There are two main issues;

  1. It inserts inline CSS into the middle of the page, which under XHTML is not good
  2. The gallery layout can do unusual things, including odd line breaks which can create large gaps after the first row, kill the template or other odd things

It’s been bugging me for a while now, so I decided to do a bit of research to find some solutions, and figured it would be useful to post the results.

Halo Legends

By KenjiE20 on 24 Jul 2009@ 6:02 pm

So this got announced the other day too;

The BONES, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio 4°C, and Toei Animation anime studios are animating Halo Legends, a DVD anthology of seven short films based on Microsoft Studios’ Halo game franchise. Microsoft’s creative staff is approving the visuals and storytelling. Three of the creative directors are Frank O’Connor of Microsoft’s 343 Industries, Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed), and Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers)

In case you hadn’t noticed, I like games and anime, so needless to say, I am rather looking forward to this. Hopefully it won’t turn out a giant mess, but judging from the clips in the trailer, it could well be interesting;

More of this please, thanks

So if you haven’t heard, S2 Games, the company behind the Savage series, have a new game coming out, and what’s more is they’ve been doing Linux Closed Beta testing with the guys over at Phoronix, and the Linux Gaming community has responded, in a big way.

Phoronix posts on the subject so far;
Come Play This New Linux-Native Game With Us!
Linux Gamers Are Excited For New Games
Okay, Linux Gamers Are REALLY Excited!

Game studios, pay attention. Linux gamer’s exist, and there are many of them, and they move with surprising force, (and buying power).

So what is Heroes of Newerth all about? Well, we can’t exactly tell you. S2 Games has all media under an embargo covering this game. Basically it’s an online, multi-player strategy game that is based upon DoTA (Defense of the Ancients).

Weechat: Chanmon 1.3.3 & rslap 1.0

By KenjiE20 on 21 Jul 2009@ 3:04 pm

I mentioned the “Channel Monitor” in the earlier Weechat post.

So here’s Chanmon v.1.3.3 [ dl ]
Which allows you to watch all/most/some of your IRC channels in a single buffer, without merging them.

And rslap v1.0 [ dl ]
Allows /rslap <nick> to slap a nick with  a random pre-defined message

More info can be found under their respective pages in Downloads
Both scripts are also available through Weechat’s built-in manager script ‘weeget’

Ka-boom-boom

By KenjiE20 on 16 Jul 2009@ 2:22 pm

So the site fell off the net. It’s not like anyone actually cares.. right?

-Technical stuff follows-
In case you were wondering, my hoster’s fell a foul of the VPS issue a while back, they’ve now fixed that, but it’s taken some time to figure out what’s gone and what’s recoverable.

Seems like the SQL DB’s have gone, and I was stupid and missed backing up. But all is not lost, this old backup will suffice for now, and I have the source for the other pages thanks to Google Cache.

So over the next week I should get this back, maybe with restored images, maybe not, and after that, I might actually have some new crud to put up.

Weechat’ing it up

By KenjiE20 on 14 Jul 2009@ 9:00 pm

So I’ve been meaning to do it for some time, find an CLI IRC client for my linux box, so I can OS hop on the main box.

The main drawback of the ‘usual suspects’ were I never found them all that intuitive, or configurable. I finally stumbled across Weechat, the dev version (now 0.3.0-RC2) is both easy-to-pickup and customise. The only thing it was missing for me was something like HydraIRC’s “Channel Monitor”, but with the wide array of scripting languages, I figured why not? and wrote it from scratch, with a little guidance and ideas from #weechat.

So now, my IRC looks like this:
